Not so ‘Common Sense’
January 17th, 2008 . by ErinWhere has common sense gone? The phrase ‘Do unto others as you would have them to unto you’ has lost all meaning. I do believe that we live in a country that takes everything for granted and gives to nobody unless we think it’ll benefit them. Granted not everyone is like this, but an alarming number are. We manipulate, take advantage, scapegoat, and generally treat everyone we come across like crap… for the love of Pete, when did we turn into the French?
It’s almost comical when you’re working, out shopping or just outside walking around, and see America’s finest lose it when some tiny little thing goes wrong or they don’t get what they want the second they want it. They digress into a two year old and throw some of the biggest fits I’ve ever seen when something doesn’t go their way.
I despise the fact that our nation has fallen into a sense of ‘entitlement’, it’s ridiculous! No wonder every other country wants to see our continent go up in a big old mushroom cloud. I honestly don’t blame them at this point. Anyone who has ever worked any job in customer service especially on a Friday understands the want of Darwin’s theory of ‘Natural Selection’ to be true.

Who ever came up with the idea that yelling and throwing a tantrum would get you anything you want, should not only be shot but have their arms ripped from their body and savagely beaten by them!
These are the people who should take trips to 3rd world countries and see how the other side lives. People there are mostly happy to have a roof over their head and or running water. Where has America’s priorities gone? I’ll tell you where they’ve gone… around the bowl and down the hole!
It’s pretty rare to find people who not only serve others but do it un-conditionally. It takes a remarkable individual to leave this worth un-scathed so to speak. People who continue to think people are basically good and in the words of ‘scrubs’ are not ‘bastard covered bastards with bastard filling’.
My hope is that one day the vast majority of the people in this world will stop being self serving and actually give a crap about the people you feel are beneath you or feel has wronged you and treat those people with respect.

Interesting rant. So as the former governor of New York said, “I would invite you to retract your statement that we brought this (referring to 9.11) on ourselves.” How we also love our denial.
So are you the self serving or unconditionally serving variety? It sounds like you despise everyone around you, so how could you be anything but self serving?
Everyone loves to whine and bitch about how messed up everyone else is, without ever once thinking to examine themselves. Everyone just wants to cast stones while pretending they’re perfect.
Your elitist attitude is disturbing. The problem with America isn’t that everyone is selfish, it’s that everyone thinks they are better than everyone else. They, like you, rail against the people around them in hypocritical rants to try to solidify their place at the top of the moral food chain in their own minds.
Yea, me and my friends are alright, but everyone else is stupid. Well the only difference between people in general and your friends is that you don’t know the general population very well - not on a personal level anyway. You assume you know who they are because you see the worst of them in the mall, on the street, or on a customer service phone call.
What you should try to have is a little more empathy. Maybe instead of assuming you’re better than everyone else, you could try to understand where they’re coming from or realize that there is more to them than what you can see in your 10 seconds of interaction. Realize that everyone has parents, families, little dogs, friends, jobs, and everyone is just trying to survive.
“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes”
Ok… she does spread a pretty thick layer of “spew”. However since I know her personally :), I also know this is said in a very broad “on the surface” level. For those of us who encounter said people on a day to day basis, we see all kinds of crap aimed at the most innocent. We know these people are wonderful most of the time. However, out in public they love the attention they feel they are entitled to. So if your taking offense at Erin’s opinion, maybe she hit a nerve you didn’t see coming…thus another wonderful opportunity to whine and get your way :)…if this is “you”, may I suggest reading something else…
