The Greek muses incarnate themselves on Earth to inspire men to achieve. One of them, incarnated as a girl named Kira (Olivia Newton John), encounters an artist named Sonny Malone. With the help of Danny McGuire (Gene Kelly), a man Kira had inspired forty years earlier, Sonny builds a huge disco roller rink.
My Dad has had a massive crush on Olivia Newton John since she first appeared in Grease (Which explains why I have seen a lot of her movies). Although Miss John had appeared in numerous amounts of horrible films, no other tops the charts like Xanadu. Here is a very interesting clip involving Olivia, Gene Kelly and an 80’s Roller Rink. It’s not creepy but disturbing none the less.

i almost saw this play on broadway last march, but i saw chorus line instead. =(
Were they actually saying Xanadu at the beginning? Because I couldn’t really understand them. I have never seen this, but Olivia’s voice makes it awfully tempting to put in my Netflix queue.
Oh no… my love affair (from afar) with Olivia extends WAAAY back before “Grease” - back to the day when I first heard “Let Me Be There” and thought it would be cool to sing bass for her. In fact, I HATED “Grease” and the story line that made my Olivia a “cheap hussy” (although the tight leather pants…)

As I watch this, I cry. Only because in 3 weeks I am going to NYC and we bought tickets to Xanadu. And then it got cancelled. Nice. Guess we’ll have to settle for Wicked.
Uhm what was the point of this movie? Why would a muse leave to make a roller skate rink? I LOVE Gene Kelly, but did he do anything other than skate in this movie? That mans a dance and singing genius…hello ,Singing In the Rain!! And they didn’t use him in the 8 minute dance sequence…INSANE!And Olivia looks beautiful BUT…I will not be renting this movie…sorry!LOL
